On Wednesday, I didn't feel so well. I was very tired. I guess I was more disappointed than anything. In the last few weeks, I had been feeling like a little kid on Christmas eve waiting for Christmas morning. But Christmas just would not come! On Thursday, I felt much better, so I took my sister to the mall. We walked for hours, and had spicy Chinese for lunch. This was my desperate attempt to get the kid out...
All morning I had contractions here and there. I started to count them after lunch on our way home, around 3 pm. They were about 20 minutes apart. As the rest of the day went by, the contractions increased, but they were not quite strong enough or close enough to get excited. The contractions continued through Friday. That day we expected my mom to arrive from Mexico. Our dear neighbor Joe went to pick her up from the airport. We thought he would have to take her straight to the hospital, but, when she arrived, we were still at home. At that time the contractions were stronger and closer together, however they were not very even and I could still handle them quite easily. Later that night they became much stronger and they came along with a very strong back pain. However, they continued to be very sporadic. Around two o'clock in the morning I decided it was time to go to the hospital.

When we arrived to the hospital I was only dilated 2 cm. So, they sent us for a 2 hour walk. When we got back, I had only dilated one more centimeter, for a grand total of 3 cm!!! Thankfully, I was admited. I thought they would send us back home. The Labor continued to progress very slowly. Contractions were very intense, very spread apart and sporadic. They never got to 2 minutes apart, but they went from 4 to 7 minutes. And some of them lasted longer than 2 minutes.

Our desire was to have a natural delivery, without medicines or interventions, unless absolutely necessary. However, the baby was not coming out straight. Her head was coming a little sideways, which gave me a bit of back labor. The back pain was really the worse part of it. The back pain with the contractions, was more than I could handle, since I was already very tired. I asked Cary to get me something por the pain but not the epidural. So, they gave me a shot. I don't remember what it was Cary says it was Stadol. Well, all it did was to take the edge off the contractions and help me sleep. It only lasted for a couple of hours.
